The City of La Habra Heights annual reports for the Street Maintenance Assessment District No. 7 and the Fire Prevention, Protection, and Life Safety Services Special Tax have been published.  The annual charges were approved by the City Council on June 8, 2020, and appear on the secured property tax bill of properties within the City limits.  The charges fund the maintenance of streets and drainage improvements throughout the City, and the services provide by the City’s Fire Department. What are Benefit Assessment Districts? Benefit Assessment Districts are a “property tax” mechanism used by local governmental agencies in California (counties, cities, and special districts) to fund public improvements and services.  Assessment Districts are established for a specific geographical area that receives a special benefit from specific public improvements and services.  In other words, the charge only applies to properties receiving a benefit instead of being applied against all properties within a governmental jurisdiction, as is the case with regular property taxes. Street Improvement Project: Contract Awarded

As reported in Guac Talk! (9/27/2019), the City of La Habra Heights’ newsletter, the City Council has awarded the construction contract for the next Street Improvement Project. Important: Street Maintenance Assessment District No. 7 funds along with a $500,000 annual contribution from the General Fund are used for the City’s annual (ongoing and long-term) street improvement projects. The annual street improvement projects do not cover potholes and routine maintenance. Potholes and routine maintenance are paid separately through the City’s Public Works (General Fund) budget.
