Understanding The Proposed Sewer Rate Structure
We understand that comparing the current and proposed sewer rates may feel a bit challenging, especially since the current structure includes both a fixed charge and a usage-based (volumetric) component, whereas the proposed rates are entirely fixed. That said, here are a couple of key points we think the community will find helpful:
- Attributes of a sound rate structure: include rates that are easy to understand from the customer’s perspective, easy to administer from the utility’s perspective, equitable and non-discriminating, promote the efficient allocation of the resource, and provide month-to-month and year-to-year revenue stability.
- With a fully fixed rate, single-family property owners will be able to budget more accurately for their monthly sewer bill, with no surprises due to usage changes.

What happens to us who use Septic Tanks. You cant charge me for this service.
That is correct. If your parcel is not connected to the sewer line, then you will not have a sewer charge.
The proposed increases for sewer rates are absurd with no real explanation to justify them. It shows a total lack of responsibility and transparency on the part of the districts board. The shift to a single fixed rate per household under the guise of easier family budgeting removes any incentive to conserve water and is just the latest example of another parcel tax to shift community costs onto the backs of part time residents who utilize the services the least.
