Have You Mailed Your South Melrose Ballot Yet?

As a property owner in South Melrose, your input is vital to the future of our community. You should have received a South Melrose ballot in the mail early this month with a proposed annual assessment amount for your consideration. Your vote will determine if the new special assessment shall be authorized to fund current tree trimming and landscape services. The existing funding model is facing challenges in maintaining the current landscape service levels due to rising costs and no increase in assessments in more than 25 years.

All ballots must be received by the City no later than May 14, 2024. You may also submit your ballot in person to the City Clerk at the Council meeting (prior to the conclusion of the Public Hearing for this proposed assessment), which will be held on May 14, 2024, at 5:30 p.m. at 200 Civic Center Drive in Vista.

If approved, new funding would be used to:

• Trim trees and maintain/enhance landscaping
• Control pests
• Reduce fire risks by removing debris
• Keep public areas clean
• Conserve water by replacing existing landscaping with drought-tolerant plants where feasible
