Low-Income Senior Exemption for 2026-2027
The MWPA is funded by a parcel tax approved by voters in March 2020. There is a low-income senior parcel tax exemption available to homeowners who meet certain criteria. You must re-apply every year before June 30th.
The application window has closed and submissions are no longer being accepted for tax year 2026/2027.
Low-Income Senior Homeowner Exemption
The Marin Wildfire Prevention Authority (MWPA) was created to implement a comprehensive wildfire prevention and emergency preparedness program for Marin County. MWPA is funded by a parcel tax approved by voters in March 2020.
There is a low-income senior parcel tax exemption available to homeowners who meet certain criteria. You must re-apply every year before June 30th.
2026-2027 Criteria
To qualify for an exemption from the Measure C – Marin Wildfire Prevention Authority – parcel tax, homeowners must meet the following criteria:
- Owner must be 65 years old, or older, by July 1 of the applicable tax year
- Property must be an owner-occupied, single-family residence (house, condo, town home)
- An exemption application must be filed annually before June 30th.
- Mobile and floating homes are exempt from the special parcel tax and do not require an exemption application to be submitted.
- Household income is equal to or lower than the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) income limits for assisted housing programs based on number of people in household):
Income for 2026 must not exceed the income limits for exemption eligibility:
- 1 Person $108,300
- 2 People $123,800
- 3 People $139,250
- 4 People $154,700
- 5 People $167,100
You can look up your exemption eligibility with your Assessor Parcel Number (APN) using Marin County's website.
