Residents of selected neighborhoods in the City of Oxnard have expressed interest in participating in the ReNew Oxnard Program for improved services. CivicMic and the City will engage residents to build a long-lasting solution for each neighborhood. Engaged participants will be able to express ideas on how to improve their neighborhoods. As recently reported by CivicMic, the City of Oxnard Maintenance Assessment District levies were approved for Fiscal Year 2020-21 at the June 2, 2020, Council meeting. As recently posted by CivicMic, the City of Oxnard Maintenance Assessment District levies were approved for Fiscal Year 2020-21 at the June 2, 2020, Council meeting. The approval did not include the Victoria Estates Landscape Maintenance District No. 48 (“LMD No. 48”) assessment levies. LMD No. 48 was formed in March 2003 to fund the maintenance of public improvements for the Victoria Estates community. However, LMD No. 48 was dissolved and the assessments were last levied in Fiscal Year 2016-17. Benefit Assessment Districts are a “property tax” mechanism used by local governmental agencies in California (counties, cities, and special districts) to fund public improvements and services. Assessment Districts are established for a specific geographical area that receives a special benefit from specific public improvements and services. As hinted by the title of this post, public hearings are a big part of it. In this post, we will specifically discuss public hearings for California special assessments aka assessment districts.
