Join the Discussion: Rio Vista Storm Drain Fee Open House Community Workshop
The City of Rio Vista is taking significant steps to upgrade its stormwater management system by adopting Resolution No. 2024-029, which sets a Public Hearing. This development marks a proactive approach to addressing State requirements and the city's increasing flooding risks through enhanced maintenance of infrastructure. Notably, the storm drain fee has not increased since 1989.
The resolution follows comprehensive evaluations by the Municipal Rates and Utilities Committee (MRUC), which includes both city council members and engaged residents. Their thorough review ensures that the new storm drain service fees are both fair and compliant with Proposition 218.
In preparation for the public hearing, the city will host a community meeting today, May 30, 2024. There will be two community meetings at 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm and 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm at the American Legion Hall on Saint Francis Way. Both meetings will have the same content. The community meetings will be a drop in format allowing property owners to come anytime during the meeting and have their individual questions answered.
This meeting aims to foster a deeper understanding of the proposed changes and encourage active participation.

I agree that the city needs money and work has to be done. I think the price hike is too big. Most people will vote NO. Maybe if the price was less dramatic people would agree. The water in Rio Vista is terrible, it kills the pipes, appliances and household items not mentioning health. Is the hike in price going to fix this problem as well? I can’t afford the home filtration system so I buy water to cook and drink.
Thank you for your comment and for expressing your concerns about water quality in Rio Vista. It’s important to clarify that the ballot sent is specific to a storm drain fee currently under discussion. The proposed rate is aimed at managing stormwater, not improving drinking water quality.
However, the city is currently discussing new rates for the water system. As part of ongoing efforts to enhance the water system, the City’s Municipal Rate Utility Commission (MRUC) has reviewed the existing infrastructure and rates to ensure the support necessary for continued maintenance and improvements. The City of Rio Vista continually ensures that the drinking water meets all state, federal, and local safety standards. Recognizing that perceptions of water quality can vary among residents, the city is committed to addressing any concerns that arise. A recent water quality report, which confirms compliance with these regulations, has been distributed to residents. You can view this report here.
