Rio Vista Stormwater Flooding: Images from December 2023

This post showcases the aftermath of the recent December 2023 storm in Rio Vista. These images capture the flooding at City Hall, the sea wall, and Edgewater. They also include a glimpse of the public works departments on site at the location of some of the flooding.

December 19, 2023 7:30 am. Stormwater accumulated in front of City Hall. Stormwater runs downhill to the sea wall and has to be pumped over the wall into the river. The current pump can not keep up with .40 inch in 24 hours. Additionally, Public Works staff must respond to localized flooding throughout the city and monitor pumps, clean drains, install sandbags, and post signs.

December 19, 2023 7:30 am. Edgewater localized flooding when the pumps were clogged with leaves. Crews responded, cleared the leaves and got the pumps going again. During storm days, the Public Works Department patrols the city around the clock checking drains, clearing clogs, closing streets and ensuring critical infrastructure is functioning.
