Update on Funding for the City of San Leandro Neptune Drive Project

In this post, CivicMic shares some good news about the City of San Leandro Neptune Drive Shoreline Flood Protection Project. This is also known as the "Neptune Drive Project" to build a new levee to prevent neighborhood flooding.

The City was notified that a federal grant has been approved to help fund this project by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

This will result in the potential movement of approximately 1,000 properties in the community out of the 100-year flood zone to the lower-risk 500-year flood zone. This would significantly reduce the cost to homeowners by lowering their flood insurance requirements imposed by mortgage companies.

The grant amount is unknown at this time, and additional funding may be required to construct the entire project. The City will provide updated information and the next steps as soon they receive more information.
