West Linda Comprehensive Safe Routes to School Project

To determine which streets should be included within the project limits for the West Linda Comprehensive Safe Routes to School Project, the County conducted comprehensive research to identify streets and intersections most in need of safety improvements and repair. This research included:

• Public meetings to receive input from residents on their main concerns and the types of improvements they’d be interested in seeing.
• Evaluation of current roadway conditions
• Analysis of collision data and reports of increased localized flooding

These criteria, in addition to the requirements of the state funding grant being sought, narrowed down the project limits to those streets that most strongly qualify the project for funding and would receive the greatest benefit.

We plan to have the design completed in the Fall of 2025 and will be advertising for construction in Spring of 2026 to start construction in Summer of 2026.

Construction will be completed in multiple phases, with each phase taking up to 12 months. The goal for project completion is the end of Fall 2028, however, it’s important to note that the dates provided are estimates and may change.

Whether the proposed improvements will be higher than the existing grade is being determined on a street-by-street basis and depends on several factors including position of existing right of way relative to proposed back of walk, the elevation of private property (i.e. are homes below the road), and existing utilities. Our goal is to minimize the change in grade as much as possible to reduce impacts on surrounding properties, and this approach will allow us to tailor the grade of improvements to each street individually. We are not taking a “one size fits all” approach, it’s important to us to ensure that the improvements work best for each street’s individual conditions.
